The Chrysler Group has filed paperwork for an initial public offering for some of its shares—the first time the company's shares will be publicly traded since 1998, the AP reports. The move comes at the behest of a United Auto Workers retirement trust, which owns 41.5% of the company, reports USA Today. The trust provides medical coverage for 115,000 former workers and their families, reports the New York Times. Chrysler has set a maximum proposed offering price of $100 million, though that may change, the AP reports.
The move is sure to annoy CEO Sergio Marchionne, who is also the CEO of Fiat, which owns the other 58.5% of the company, notes the Times. Marchionne wants to merge the two auto companies, but the trust thinks its stake is worth more than Fiat is willing to pay, and would rather let the market determine the price. "The union took a very high risk when it accepted shares in a bankrupt company four years ago to cover health care for retirees,” says a labor professor from UC Berkley. "Now they want to share in Chrysler’s success."

FRANKFURT -- Opel/Vauxhall has started work on a new flagship model that will launch at the end of 2016 or early 2017, company sources told Automotive News Europe. The car may come to market with alternative powertrains such as a fuel cell system to help boost Opel's green image.
According to internal plans, Opel's management board sees an annual sales potential of about 20,000 units. The new model will be positioned above the company's Insignia midsized car.
Klaus Franz, Opel deputy chairman and the company's top labor official, said the flagship should be a "technological spearhead" for the brand with hybrid and fuel-cell propulsion systems and lots of other state-of-the-art technologies.
"Already with the our Ampera electric vehicle, we have shown what we are able to do and enjoy an advantage of two to three years compared to the competition," Franz told ANE.
Franz said unions will press for the car to be built in Germany. "The workers representatives will support this project to the fullest. A flagship like this can only be built on the Epsilon 2 architecture with long wheelbase. We will do everything to build this car at our headquarters in Ruesselsheim, rather than Mexico or elsewhere," he said.
Franz sees annual sales of 20,000 for the model as realistic for Opel/Vauxhall in and outside Europe.
He said it is unlikely to be possible to launch the flagship, which is internally called the TOL (top-of-the-line), before 2016 because of other priorities, such as introducing a new minicar codenamed Junior, as well as new Astra-based convertible and coupe models and a small SUV. "The TOL is a luxury," he said.
In May, Opel CEO Karl-Friedrich Stracke said the company was mulling a new flagship model that would improve the brand's image. He told a Germany's Welt am Sonntag newspaper that the car would be a crossover between SUV and station wagon, with an attractive design, high functionality and premium features.
An Opel spokesman declined to comment to ANE on the company's future product plans.

Right now, the Veloster lacks the performance cred to back up its killer looks. But that will change once this 201-hp version hits the streets. The 45 percent boost in horsepower has most folks taking a second look at the Veloster, and hoping this Turbo is a signal that Hyundai is getting as serious about performance as it has been about quality and design over the last few years.
So far, though, signs remain cloudy—the stonking 1.6-liter motor with dual exhaust notwithstanding. Word is the Veloster Turbo gets the same suspension, which is disappointing. The stock Veloster is fun but stiff-kneed and less refined when compared to better-bred sporty cars like VW's GTI—or the Subaru BRZ, which is only somewhat costlier than what we're expecting to see from the Veloster Turbo. Also, ask Mini engineers about controlling torque steer in a 200-hp car with a short wheelbase. That, too, has probably made Hyundai sweat.
Even if the Veloster Turbo isn't perfection out of the gate, we hope it's a sign of better-performing Hyundais  to come.

Powered by a revolutionary 1.6L TDI engine, the 5-speed manual gearbox, backed by a 105 PS (77 kW) and 250 Nm torque, this is one machine that offers you the maximum power, while consuming less at the same time.

A host of premium features and advancements makes this drive an unparalleled experience. But at the heart of it all is a mighty engine that has been crafted and perfected over years. After all, all powerful machines have one thing in common. The engine.

NEW POLO GT 1.6 TDI

Price?

£16,830 - £22,140

What is it?

Yes, it's a slightly bigger, taller VW Golf that slips into a niche that no one thought of, and we're not sure anyone wants.

Driving

The Plus doesn't really drive like a Golf. It feels wallowy and sluggish and with the low power and limited torque of the cheaper engines it needs to be hustled a bit harder than you'd like. Where VW seldom falls down, however, is on the daily grind, and the Plus is a quiet and cossetting long-distance cruiser.
The ride is good and of course there's lots of space, so overall the Golf Plus is a relaxing way to get about.
Engines kick off with a 1.4 with 79bhp, rising to the turbocharged 1.4 TSI with 120bhp. That's it for petrols, the diesels starting with the new 1.6-litre with either 90 or 104bhp, before giving way to the two-litre TDI with either 108 or 138bhp. The higher-powered 1.6 matches the lesser 2.0 not only on power, but also price and torque. Economy is better too and it's available with the excellent DSG semi-automatic gearbox.

On the inside

The interior is almost exactly the same as before, give or take some new materials and the odd knob or two. It's still low on luxury, but its traditionally bulletproof interior does the no-nonsense basics very well. Whereas the Merc A-Class feels well-built because it looks expensive, the Golf Plus looks well-built simply because it is. There are slightly disappointing plastics and an absence of style in the dash layout, but if you're going to have kids pulling and poking things, you'll want your car as impregnable as possible.
The Plus is roomier than the standard Golf and the rear seats have a few acrobatic tricks like reclining and sliding, but it won't carry any extra people. Potentially handy options include a big box between rear seat passengers if there are only two of them, and a folding front passenger seatback for super-long loads.

Owning

The Plus shouldn't cost more to run than the equivalent Golf, which means outgoings should be well-contained. Most versions have just group 7 insurance, and servicing is on a variable schedule so if you go gently, you're rewarded with fewer visits to the dealer.

We were expecting the new BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports coupe that made its grand entrance in production trim at the Frankfurt auto show this week to be expensive, but now we know precisely what that means in Benjamin Franklins.
Not taking into account any federal or state incentives for which it may qualify, the 2014 BMW i8 will be priced from $135,700 plus destination and handling fee when it arrives in showrooms across the United States in spring of next year.
What you get for that kind of cash is a high-tech piece of Bavarian machinery with a slippery shape, seating for four, more carbon fiber and lightweight materials that you could ever imagine, and an advanced hybrid powertrain.
The latter links a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder twin-turbocharged petrol engine developing 228hp (231 PS) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque that drives the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox and a synchronous electric motor developing 129hp (96kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque turning the front wheels via a two-stage automatic transmission. A 5 kWh lithium-ion high-voltage battery with liquid cooling complete the setup.
Overall, the powertrain delivers a combined system output of 362 PS (357hp) and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque for 0 to 62mph (100 km/h) sprint in 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Fuel consumption (with the use of the battery) on the EU combined cycle is quoted at 2.5 liters per 100 km or 94 mpg US.
It would be interesting to see what other sports coupes you would look at in this price range (~$120,000 to $150,000). A few of cars that come to mind and which are evidently very different in character and philosophy, would be the SRT Viper, Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R Track Pack. Think about it and tell us in the comments below.

Daimler, the maker of Mercedes-Benz and Smart cars, has announced that it will start selling a self-driving car by 2020.
It is thought the car will be able to drive on its own in most situations but will still hand control back to the driver during difficult situations such as dealing with traffic lights.
The move could help Daimler regain its position as the leading luxury car market from its rival BMW.

‘We want to be the first to launch autonomous functions in production vehicles. You can be sure: we will accomplish that in this decade,’ said Daimler head of development Thomas Weber.
The technology featured at this week's Frankfurt car show but won’t come to market for another 10 years.
The German car maker has been working on improving its driverless technology over the past few years and recently became the world’s first car manufacturer to demonstrate autonomous driving in rural and urban traffic.
Last month, a Mercedes Benz S 500 Intelligent Drive research vehicle, drove autonomously through a 100-kilometre-long route from Mannheim to Pforzheim in Germany.

Last month, a Mercedes Benz S 500 Intelligent Drive research vehicle drove autonomously through a 100-kilometre-long route from Mannheim to Pforzheim in Germany

The research vehicle was equipped with production-based sensors for the project. Developers taught the technology platform to know where it is, what it sees and how to react autonomously.
With the aid of its highly automated 'Route Pilot', the vehicle was able to negotiate its own way through dense urban and rural traffic.
The driverless S-Class was also able to deal with some difficult situations involving traffic lights, roundabouts, pedestrians, cyclists and trams.
Existing technology already partly automates driving to assist during, for instance, traffic jams, by maintaining a safe distance with the car in front.
In July, the UK government said it will allow driverless cars on public roads for the first time during trials to take place this year.
During the ground-breaking road tests, an expert will have to remain in the driving seat.
Scientists at Oxford University are working with Nissan in Sunderland to create ‘robotcars’ that can drive themselves independently using details of the road they are driving on stored in on-board software.
The Nissan self-drive Leaf electric car is controlled by an iPad, and the Oxford team behind it claim the technology could be installed in mainstream cars as a £60 option.

The Volkswagen Golf is a subcompact car manufactured by German automaker Volkswagen since 1974, marketed worldwide across seven generations, in various body configurations and under various nameplates – as the Volkswagen Rabbit in the United States and Canada (Mk1 and Mk5), and as the Volkswagen Caribe in Mexico (Mk1).
The original Golf Mk1 was a front-wheel drive, front-engined replacement for the air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel drive Volkswagen Beetle. Historically, the Golf is Volkswagen's best-selling model and the world's second best-selling model, with more than 29 million built by 2012.
Most production of the Golf was initially in the 3-door hatchback style. Other variants include a 5-door hatchback, estate/wagon (Variant, from 1993), convertible (Cabriolet andCabrio, 1979–2002, 2011 - present), and a Golf-derived notchback saloon/sedan, variously called Volkswagen JettaVolkswagen Vento (from 1992) or Volkswagen Bora (from 1999). The cars have filled many market segments, from basic personal cars, to high-performance hot hatches.
The Volkswagen Golf has won many awards throughout its history. The Volkswagen Golf won the World Car of the Year in 2009 with the Volkswagen Golf Mk6 and in 2013 with theVolkswagen Golf Mk7. Every generation of Golf has been a runner-up in the European Car of the Year awards and two have been winners, the Golf Mk3 in 1992 and the Golf Mk7 in 2013.The Volkswagen Golf has made the Car and Driver annual 10Best list multiple times.

You know the type. The type that stands in the corner, speaking in muffled tones and rattling off BMW 3-Series chassis codes, while voicing the benefits of ‘Avus' suspension over standard. This type is officially Hard To Please. BMW knows it.

"I think a lot of purists look at the M3 all the way back to the E30, so there's obviously a challenge there for people to accept it," says Matt Collins, product manager for BMW's small to medium cars. We're sitting at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and he's talking about the new 4-Series Coupe (pictured above), and thus, the next M-powered 4-Series Coupe. The M4.

That's because when BMW announced that it killed the ‘3-Series Coupe' badge, people quickly cottoned on to the fact that actually, there will never again be another BMW M3 Coupe. We even showed you pictures of the very last one being built.

"If you look at the way the M brand has evolved over the years," says Matt, "there are a lot of things that people have had to get used to, for example, going from naturally aspirated to turbocharged engines." He's referring to the M5 and M6, of course. "I think the essence of what M stands for - high performance motoring - will always be there, even if the individual components change."

From a brand perspective, it's quite a big change to kill off the M3 Coupe name, but then BMW is very aware that the new M4 carries with it huge responsibility, and is taking the upcoming M car very seriously indeed. "It's not something we're in a rush to market just to get it out," he tells me, "because it's got to be as good as it can possibly be."

What it will ‘be' is of great interest - and potentially, a solid chunk of Good News for the driving gloves brigade."What we'd like is more focus on lightweight engineering," he says. "The philosophy will be around delivering performance through improved used of materials - lightweight alloys, lots of carbon fibre etc - rather than simply trying to make the engine more powerful to move the same kind of car, or scaling it back too far so that it loses its M3 roots.

"We really want to focus on lightweight engineering. Plus we've got the technology in our ‘i' cars - carbon fibre, reinforced plastic and so forth - so that's where we're really looking to position it. Slightly more lightweight. I wouldn't say ‘racer', but more of a dynamic focus."

You can't help but get excited by this, not least because when the E92 M3 Coupe came out, it wasn't exactly a Slim Fast graduate. That said, he couldn't comment on the specific engine configuration, but confirmed the induction. "I can say it will be a turbocharged engine. From an emissions perspective, but also because our turbocharging technology is sufficiently strong, that you can still deliver a very good, high performing engine and the kind of driving dynamics that people are used to."
He points to the latest versions of the M5 and M6, both sporting a monster 560bhp 4.4-litre twin turbo V8. "How did people accept those cars? Maybe there was some initial apprehension, but the owners of new M5s and M6s told us they appreciated the increase in power (of a turbo engine) and the higher levels of torque at lower rev ranges."

Our money's on a straight-six, to keep in line with this pared-back approach; an approach that could yield a hardened CSL version. He smiles when I ask the inevitable. "There are no plans at the moment to build a lightweight CSL version of the M4, but there weren't any plans to do the last generation CSL either. We have to see what the customers think, and if there's potential for an even more lightweight version, we'll do it.

"But I think we're really focusing on making this car as light as we can. We're not going to go halfway house with the ‘real' car, because we'd like to get it as low as possible in the first place. The proper car will showcase a real reduction in weight."

That said, there could still be an M3 saloon, so the name won't die out completely. But BMW isn't worried by the competition - step forward Mercdes C63 AMG and Audi RS5 - at all. "We think the M3 is the benchmark car; it's the iconic car, and it's the one that really defines the segment. Obviously, we look at the competition and we want to make sure we're as good as we can possibly be, but when developing this M4, it's certainly not a case of ‘this is the target'. It's about making what we think is the best car in the segment even better. It's not a competitor-focused development."

So when will you get to see this icon reborn? "Obviously you've seen the spy shots on the Internet, they're running around Munich," Matt says, "but I don't know exactly where they are in terms of chassis and tuning." Traditionally, the M-powered 3-Series Coupe has always appeared about a year and half after the standard car, and Matt confirms that "yes, you can use that as a good basis".

We'll have more on the new M4 as soon as we find out, but Matt assures me that, "when the car does arrive, rest assured it will be everything you expect from a BMW M car". Excited by the prospect of a lightweight, turbocharged 4-Series road-racer? We are, even if it does share its name with a dull motorway...

Talking about the latest scenario then it’s a clear picture that every car manufacturing company is trying hard to make a fuel efficient product, as it’s a need for speed today. Sometimes it put us in trouble that whether we give priority to a luxury model or to the fuel efficient car. And what would be more pleasant if we get a combination of luxury and fuel efficiency in a single machine. Fuel efficiency matters a lot when you are driving a Sport Utility Car, you cannot judge or buy a car only on the basis of looks and other features. It is sounds better that your car attains more miles per gallon and if we are talking in India then it’s the tendency of roads that your car should be more fuel efficient than other aspects. To resolve you’re this problem, I have some information about the best fuel efficient SUV cars.
It’s mesmerizing but Renault is leading all the ways. The Sport Utility Vehicle from one of the popular car makers Renault’s Duster is hitting the best to the Indian roads. This compact SUV offers a fantabulous ride and three engine variants over the range of 7.69L – 11.49L. Renault Duster is winning the heart of people by its spectacular performance and the amazing 20.64kmpl mileage. This car is best for both city roads and highways. At last, I would say that it’s a worth a price and go for it.

MAZDA CAR dealer in Saudi Arabia Haji Husein Alireza & Co. Ltd. (HHA) recently launched the all-new sedan Mazda 6 at the company’s main showroom on Madinah Road in Jeddah.
Ali Hussein Alireza, CEO of HHA, said the launch of the 2014 model is a complement to the success of Mazda 6 in particular after being subject to various technical developments. “The Saudi market is always young and energetic as the proportion of young people continues to increase. In recent years Mazda 6 achieved youths’ aspirations and ambitions, and thus we worked in cooperation with our partners in Mazda to enhance its success in the Saudi market, as well as to provide a Mazda branded car that carries Mazda’s genes. These efforts resulted in the introduction of an all-new generation of Mazda 6, which will join the Kingdom’s Mazda family,” he added.
Noting that Mazda officially revealed its 2014 Mazda 6 for the first time earlier this year at Geneva International Motor Show, Alireza said the car was inspired by the experimental model which was introduced a year ago, and which became stronger and larger. The all-new Mazda 6 has a bold exterior with its front ventilation grille similar to the wing with LED headlights, and muscular bumper and slope roof to increase its dynamic range.
Ayhoma San, Mazda representative said: “The new design features a strong perception of dynamics and bold ride, and simply looking at the car increases one’s expectations about the driving experience even before actually driving it. The cabinet has been strengthened and improved with high-quality materials and a new amazing design.”
In view of its long wheelbase which measure 4865 mm long, the the new Mazda 6 offers for the rear seat passengers more room, and additional leg and knee space.
